Toby Stephens (Oslo, Lost in Space) and Claire Skinner (Outnumbered) make their long-awaited returns to the West End stage in Peter Nichols’s (Privates on Parade, Passion Play) frank and moving comedy A Day in the Death of Joe Egg.

Bri and Sheila have been struggling to care for their disabled 10-year old daughter Josephine ever since she was born. Nicknaming their daughter Joe Egg, her parents play fantasy games and employ humour as their coping mechanism for their daily reality.

But while Sheila is able to find her release in joining an amateur dramatics group, Bri is becoming increasingly frustrated – paranoid that his wife is having an affair and feeling stuck at home with Joe Egg, will he do something drastic?

Set and written in the 1960s, Joe Egg was one of the ground-breaking plays for a generation, and the issues faced by two parents in this bittersweet comedy still resonate with audiences today. Directed by Simon Evans (Killer Joe) this remarkable story will break your heart one minute and fill it with warmth the next, and now this startlingly funny, celebrated play returns to the West End for a limited season.
